Who we are
Strategy for Access Foundation NFP is a nonprofit organization located on the south side of Chicago, IL, with a nationwide reach.
Vanessa A. Harris, P.E., an award-winning artist and engineer, founded Strategy for Access in 2019. Originally, our work primarily advocated for persons with disabilities through film, but we have expanded to address health and economic justice for Persons of color on many platforms.
MISSION: Strategy For Access was created by, for, and about people with disabilities, to serve the disability community using advocacy, education, entertainment, and fun. Using informational and entertaining platforms, Strategy For Access will raise awareness, uplift the voices of people with disabilities, and help us all live our best lives.
Our programs have included literacy, fitness for the disabled, universal design, and disaster planning for the disabled. In 2024, we instituted two new programs: Black Excellent Women Inclusion in STEMM (BEWInSTEMM) and our Disability Designed project.
The BEWIn STEMM Initiative addresses mental and physical health and exponential financial growth for Black women in STEMM.
DISABILITY DESIGNED involves analyzing data to identify accessibility gaps and using AI tools and engineering principles to conceptualize inclusive designs for iconic sites. Our team applies data-driven insights and innovative technology to create visualizations and models that envision a more accessible future.
